Materials

4 pieces of yarn
2 glass jars
Washing soda
spoon
old plate

Procedure

1.Twist 4 pieces of yarn to for a thick string.
2.Fill an old jar with very hot water from the door.Then stir in some washing soda with a spoon.When the washing soda is completely dissolved add more and stir again. Keep adding and stirring till no more dissolves.
3. Put them somewhere warm where thy will not be disturbed.

Result

A stalactite and stalagmite will form in a few days.

Why

The water and soda solution will go along the yarn and off the yarn. As it drips, the water turns into tiny invisible drops which deposit crystals of soda. These deposits grow layers just as thy do in limestone caves.
