MATERIALS NEEDED
8 feet of hollow tubing
1 rubber band
1 peanut butter jar
1 2-liter bottle
Aluminum foil
A table outdoors on a sunny day
PROCEDURE
Pre-heat the empty peanut butter jar in the sun for 30 to 60 minutes
before starting. The best time for this experiment is in the middle
of the day when the sun is really hot.
1. Coil the tubing back and forth with 11/2 feet left out on each
side.
2. Wrap the rubber band in the middle of the coil to secure it.
3. Put the coil in the peanut butter jar
4. Fill the 2-liter bottle with cool tap water.
5. Place one end of the tubing into the bottle.
6. Put the other end of the tubing over the edge of the table.
7. To start, suck on the end of the tubing that is hanging over
the edge of the table then watch the steady drips...
RESULT
The water coming through the tubing is slightly hotter than the
water in the bottle.
WHY?
The heat from the sun heats up the water while it goes through
the tubing.
