Quicksand

By Danny

Quicksand appears to be muddy and squishy on the surface where a person or animal or any object can sink in and disappear. The person seems to be sucked into a hole. The reason the quicksand acts that way is because it is a thixotropy. It refers to a gel-like substance that becomes more fluid or less firm as it is disturbed by shaking. When someone thrashes or moves around in a quicksand, that person sinks in faster because the wiggling causes the sand to liquify.
