Kinds of Electricity

by David

There are many different kinds of electricity and they are all around us. Static electricity was discovered by Ben Franklin in the early 1700's. Heated electricity powers everyday things like dryers because of colliding atoms. Lightning, sometimes when it's heated, makes the clouds charged with static electricity.

There's also electric charges which are all around us everyday. Long ago in 1600 B.C., the Greeks were aware of what happened when amber was rubbed against fur which attracted feathers. In 1747, Ben Franklin realized static electricity made two static charges. Ben Franklin named the two charges negative and positive. Negative charges are attracted to positive charges. Negative charges try to reach positive charges.

Lightning rods are very helpful to people in many ways. Let me explain how they work. It began in 1749 when Ben Franklin suggested the use of lightning rods. The lightning strikes the rods and passes to the ground. For the rod to work, the height of the rod must be sufficient. In conclusion, I hope you enjoyed and learned something about electricity.
