Past
WHO built it: The Mayans.
WHAT it was: a walled city named Tulum which stands on a cliff over looking the Caribbean Sea.
WHEN it was built: They began settling in around 200 AD and were at their highest point between 14th and 16th century.
WHERE:On the Caribbean coast of the Yucatan Peninsula.
WHY: Tulum was used for protection and religious ceremonies.
HOW they built it: They built it out of stone.

WHAT it is: A walled city named Tulum which stands on a cliff over looking the Caribbean Sea.

WHERE: On the Caribbean coast of the Yucatan Peninsula.
WHY is it important: It is a beautiful example of Mayan architecture, and many of the carvings and structures are clues to Mayan life.
HOW did they discover it: They heard rumors and stories about ancient Maya cities.
