WHO: Some say Aeneas after the Trojan War, some say Romulus and Remus. Really, some Italian Iron Age villagers.
WHAT: hut village in 8th century, Republic of Rome in 500s BC, seat of Roman Empire, center of Catholic Faith.

WHEN: Mid 8th century BC to present.
WHERE: halfway down the boot of Italy; on seven hills near the banks of the Tiber.
WHY: Because it was the first and greatest city founded.
HOW: Barbarian attacks though much of Rome was not destroyed.
Present
WHO: Popes saved much ancient work of Rome; however, many different people have helped also.
WHAT: You can see symbols of empire: Colosseum , Trajan's Column and Arch of Constantine, Pantheon; Great art like Michelangelo's painting in the Sistine Chapel.
WHEN: Restoration efforts are ongoing.
WHERE: Same place. Capital of Italy.
WHY: Restoration continues because some of the world's most important treasures are here.
HOW: Cleaning, some digs, preservation.
