Fishbourne

How would you feel if you were digging in your garden in your backyard and you found a treasure? Well, the worker that dug up Fishbourne felt the same way. A worker was digging a pipe line and he hit some rubble. He notified archaeologists. They were amazed
that thay had found a palace in England from the time of the Roman occupation. By the way, for any of you who are thinking that this find was not a big deal, this palace was the single largest Roman palace outside of the Roman World. The Britons that were living in England at the time were what the Romans would consider wild. This palace had great quality mosaics and formal Roman-style gardens. The palace grew much like the way humans grow. It just kept on getting bigger and bigger through the 3rd century. Unfortunately, that growing was stopped because of a fire. The fire happened because of a heating accident, not because of war. The way archaeologists knew that there was a fire was that they saw glass that was warped and contorted. Later civilizations buried people in the ruins of the palace, not knowing that it was a palace. It had been buried completely.

After the building fell into ruin, Dark Ages people even buried their dead in the living room.
