WHO built it: The Maya.
WHAT it was: The largest classical Mayan city known.
WHEN it was built: the city prospered around 400 AD to 1100 AD.
WHERE: In the jungle of the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico.
WHY: Possibly for religious ceremonies, as well as a political center for the Maya culture.
HOW: Cut stone and stucco.

WHO: Jose Peon Conteras and Elizalde.
WHAT: They found eroded stelae and masonry buildings almost covered by the jungle.
WHEN: They first sketched some of the buildings in 1886.
WHERE: In the jungle of the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico. WHY is it important : The attention they paid to Coba was important because it helped them to understand more about the Maya culture.
HOW did they discover it: Followed the legends and tales of the modern-day Maya.
