CHIMPANZEES

By Olivia

Chimpanzees live and work in groups up to one hundred. It helps them a lot because they can keep each other safe. Their worst predator is the leopard. Leopards always go for the weak or young. If they stay together the leopard wouldn't attack because the strong will help the weak and young. Their communication sounds like a screaming squeak. The Chimps also help each other groom.

More interesting information is their scientific facts. The Chimpanzees scientific name is Pantroglodytes. They are called that name so scientists can classify them. A grown male is 4 feet 2 inches tall. He weighs 110 pounds. A grown female weighs 90 pounds. A female's height is 3 1/4 feet. Chimps are black haired mammals. Chimps sleep in nests at night. Their nests are 15 feet above the ground. Their hands and feet are well adapted for grabbing branches and other objects. Chimpanzees are one of the most intelligent animals and they are the closest animal to humans.

The next factor to consider is where they live. Chimps live in Central and Western Africa, also Algeria, Northern Mali and Libya. They live in rain forests, savannas and woodlands. Chimps only live in the trees they eat from. They also live from Lake Victoria to the east in Sierra Leone. Chimpanzees only adapt to Africa.
