1540: Hernando de Soto came through
Georgia. 1733: J. Oglethorpe brought English
Settlers to Georgia. 1754: Georgia became a british
province. 1788: Georgia signed the consitution and
became the fourth state on 1-2-1788. 1838: The indians in Georgia, the
Cherokee, were forced to head to Oklahoma. 1861: Georgia rebelled from the
Union. 1863: Confederate troops defeated Union
Troops at Chickamauga. 1863: General Sherman destroyed Atlanta
and started his famous March to the Sea. 1943: Georgia became the first state to
let 18-year olds vote.
