Poseidon is god of a lot of names. Poseidon is most famous
for being god of the sea. Poseidon is the son of Cronus and Rhea. He
is one of six brothers and sisters, who divided the world powers. His five
brothers and sisters are: Demeter, Hera, Hestia, Hades and Zeus. The
division of the world included his brothers and himself; his brothers are Zeus
and Hades. Poseidon ruled the sea; Zeus became the ruler of the sky, and
Hades owned the underworld. Poseidon also became god of horses and the god
of earthquakes. Poseidon was very similar to his brother Zeus in gaining power over women. He fathered numerous children and had many love affairs. One of the most notorious affairs includes his sister, Demeter. He even married a Nereid, and made Triten. Triten, who was half-fish and half-human. In his desire for her, he transformed into a stallion and caught her. Poseidon and Demeter were a good match because Poseidon is Greek for "Husband" (possibly of wheat) and Demeter is god of Wheat. |
