| Short Summary: | Laura is growing up in the big woods of Wisconsin. She is four years old. She lives in her little house with her Ma, Pa, and her two sisters, Mary and baby Carrie. They had to do things by themselves. They had lots of chores especially when fall came. They had to get everything for winter. Lots of animals roamed around the big woods of Wisconsin. It was kind of hard to catch the animals for food because they were frightened by the Ingalls. When Pa learned how to set traps, it was easier to catch animals for food. Pa might have had to go out once or twice in the winter to hunt for food. The winter weather made it hard to catch animals for food. |
| Good Part: | Pa told the girls the story of when a panther chased Grandpa through the woods one night when Grandpa was younger. Grandpa was on a horse and he heard a terrible noise that sounded like a woman screaming. When he looked up, he found out it was a panther. The panther was jumping from tree to tree chasing Grandpa on the horse. Finally, Grandpa got home and jumped off the horse. He quick got in the door to his house. Just then the panther jumped on the horse from the treetops. The horse was frightened and ran away with the panther scratching him on his back. This was very thrilling to read. I liked when the panther chased Grandpa to his house. |
