The following organizations or companies were asked to allow us to use their Trademark Logo, book cover or link to their web site. This is a small example of different responses you can expect to get when you ask for different types of permission. Throughout this site you will see other letters regarding permission

To: HumongousPR@humongous.com, KVJS

To Humongous,
My name is Katie.  Me and my friends, Kim and Madeline, in the 5th and 6th grades, are working on a project called ThinkQuestJr.  We are creating a website about copyrights and trademarks and licenses.  We are trying to help kids learn how to ask permission for things.  We want to know if we could use the picture below and your trademark on our website. This site is hoping to show students the correct way to ask for permission if they are using trademarked or copyrighted items.
Below is my class site and the Thinkquest site.

Thank you very much

Dear Katie,

Congratulations on undertaking such an ambitious, worthwhile project. Not
even many adults have the sensitivity to copyright issues like you and your
friends.

You may certainly use the image of our book on your site for educational
purposes. In addition, you may also want to visit the site for "Friends of
Active Copyright Education" (FACE) at
http://law.duke.edu/copyright/face/index.htm

Good luck on your project.

Hi. Thank you for your message.  I am chair of a committee that will be
creating a new part of the FACES web site directed toward children to teach
them about copyright law.  We would be happy to have you link your site to
the Copyright Society site, as our goal is to educate children (and everyone
else) about copyright law and, especially, when permissions need to be
obtained.  Please let me know when your site is up so we can see it or if
there's a prototype I can review before it's up.  I'll try to make sure
everything is correct. Also, in the meantime, let me know if I can advise
you in any way on the copyright or trademark clearance issues.
