        Because we are a Federal agency, the images on our Website - unless otherwise indicated - are in the public domain and as such are not copyrighted.  We do receive many requests for use of both the copyrighted and non copyrighted images that appear on our Web pages; permission is typically granted, with a request for attribution to the U.S. Department of the Interior, U.S. Geological Survey. In the case of images that we maintain through permission from another source, we ask that the requester go back to the original source to obtain permission for use.
