Michael Connally, the Webmaster at the Waikiki Aquarium in Hawaii wrote this advice about their website. The aquarium's logos and  picture above are used with the kind permission of The Aquarium.   If you want to check out this website go to the LINKS PAGE.   Here is what he wrote:

Hello Madeline,

Yes, we get a pretty good number of requests for information and for permission to either re-print content or copy pictures.  It is our general policy to allow duplication of any of our material for non-profit or educational use.
We have a specific disclaimer on our "Marine Life Profiles" http://waquarium.mic.hawaii.edu/MLP That specifically states "These materials may be reproduced for educational and personal ("fair") use only, and may not be reproduced for commercial purposes without the express written permission of the Waikiki Aquarium".  Our "Marine Life Profiles" represent the information most commonly requested by folks, and serves as a resource for both educators and students.  We provide the information in HTML, msword, text and as PDF documents to facilitate teachers printing out the info and using it as handouts for their classes. Many of our "MLPs" contain high resolution images suitable for reprinting, as opposed to the normal tiny "web-page" size images.
We are a non-profit, educational facility, part of the University of Hawaii, so our whole goal is to help kids and adults learn about the marine environment. Actually, we encourage folks to use our resources and images, as long as they are not then selling that info or using it to sell something.
We have had occasional problems with people promoting tourism to Hawaii, using our material without permission or credit, this is a problem.  On one hand we are a "tourist attraction" and part of the local tourism association, and we are glad that people are using our info instead of making things up. You have to give credit where credit is due, and we have asked folks to stop doing this when it is brought to our attention. We have never had to resort to legal measures to keep the tourism folks from "ripping off our info".
Well, good luck with your project, feel free to contact me again if you need more info. And of course you may link and use our image as a link.
