Judy Kirk, Webmaster at the Mathers Museum of World Cultures at the University of Indiana very kindly replied to our e-mail asking about the use of images and information from their website.  The Mathers Museum Websie link can be found on our LINKS PAGE. Here is her reply:

Dear Madeline:

Thank you very much for your letter.  I'm sorry I didn't respond earlier, but our university was closed for the winter break.  I really enjoyed looking at your Web site, and can understand why your team has won awards - it's very good.

Your idea for a web site on copyright is great, and I'd be very happy to participate in your project.  I also grant permission for you to use the building's image as a link to our Web site.  (We have a photo of our building on our home page).

Currently our web site is primarily oriented toward Indiana University students and faculty (the Mathers Museum is part of IU), but we are working on developing a separate site for teachers and children.

One of the reasons we're working on a separate site is because we do receive a number of requests from kids.  In our case, we grant permission to children to use the materials if the images or information will be used for educational purposes, such as a web site, report, or a class presentation.  However, if someone asks to use an image for a commercial purpose (like to make a t-shirt to sell) we would either not grant them permission, or we would grant permission, but would charge for use of the image.

Please let me know how I can be of further assistance to you in your project.
