| Marc Bretzfelder, the Webmaster at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. wrote this advice about their website. The zoo's logo and animal pictures above are used with the kind permission of The National Zoo, part of the Smithsonian Institute. A link to the National Zoo can be found on the LINKS PAGE. Here is what he wrote. Questions are bolded and in red. Answers are bolded and in blue: |
The National Zoo is part of the Smithsonian Institution. The images on the web site, http://www.si.edu/natzoo are an asset that we protect. Like many of the others that you have interviewed, we generally allow use of the images for educational purposes, but we do require that people get permission in advance and that they credit the Zoo and the photographer, as well as provide a link to the Zoo's homepage. I get requests every few days both for educational use and commercial use. I pass the commercial use requests on to our business office. The goal of our site is to provide a virtual tour experience for people who may never have a chance to visit the Zoo, as well as to help people plan visits. To further that goal, we offer opportunities for people to watch our animal demos and attend our evening lectures live online at http://zootv1.si.edu.
