Franklin Rooselvelt was the president through the Great Depression. He was born on January 30th 1882 in New York. His parents were James and Sara Roosevelt. James Roosevelt was a president for a railroad company. They were very wealthy people. As a child Franklin Roosevelt wanted to be a sailor but instead became president. As a teenager, Franklin Roosevelt attended an all boy school named Groton Prep School. At Groton, he averaged a B in all his studies. At Harvard, he averaged a C. When President Roosevelt was 39 he contracted polio, paralyzing his legs and making him the only crippled president. Even though he had enough spirit to continue anything he used to do, he still had to be dressed and for traveling he had to be lifted in and out of cars. Although polio did stop him from going to his favorite restuarants for his favorite foods which are hard to find cheeses, oyster crabs, quail, and pheasant.
He defeated Herbert Hoover when the Great Depression started.
