The official name of the country is the Republic of the Philippines. It is also called the Pearl of the Orient. The Philippine eagle is the national bird and the milkfish is the national fish! Sampaguita is the national flower. One of the heroes is Jose P. Rizal who was martyred by Spanish invaders.
