Food in Japan is not like food in America.  Before you walk into any restaurant in Japan, you can see what they serve by looking in the front window.  In the  front window is plastic look-a-likes of the food being sold.  (The plastic food is a major expense for these restaurants.)

Most people think of rice and noodles when they think of Japan.  This is correct.  Do you know that it is considered okay to slurp your noodles out of the bowl?  It's weird sitting at a restaurant and listening to all that noodle slurping.  Rice is served at every meal.  White rice that is.  Served every day at every meal.

Food in Japan is very expensive.  I remember going with my mom to get vegetables out in town and she would spend about 2000-3000Y on every trip.  But it was well worth it.  The fruits and vegetables out in town looked so much better than those sold and shipped from America.

I'm not very brave when it comes to eating raw fish, which is sushi.  They actually have sushi bars.   You go in and in the middle of what is like a big O stands the sushi chefs.  They make dishes and send it around on a conveyor belt.  It moves around and you take the ones you want.  Then they add up the number of plates by the color of the plates by your seat.  That's your bill.  Most sushi plates ran from about 100-400Y.  If you were a big eater, you'd spend a fortune.
