Medusa's father was the sea god Phorcys.He gave her powers to transform herself into a beautiful woman. She sacrificed her immortality for this power, and Athena was so jealous she turned Medusa into a gorgon. Her sisters and herself had snakes for hair, scales all over their bodies, and could turn anyone to stone as soon as their victim met the gorgon's eyes.
