Hi! If you want to learn about wolves, here's the place! I hope you find that wolves are not ferocious animals, but creatures of peace.

Wolves are a part of the dog family, scientifically called canid. (kay-nid) Their fur is usually brown or gray, but they can also be black. They are social animals and have good memories. Wolves have three eyelids and are great diggers, but they are not that good at climbing trees.

Wolves babies are called pups or puppies. The mother or father will regurgarate, which means to throw-up, so the pups can have soft food to eat. Puppies play fight alot so they can have more experience and learn how to protect themselves for when they grow up. Sometimes wolves babysit pups that are not their own. Mother and father wolves are very protective of their pups.

Wolves live in a pack. A pack is like family. There is one leader male and female. They are the two dominant ones. A pack will help hunt down big animals like deer, caribou, moose, and elk. They will also howl together to get the group excited to hunt.Wolves that are not in a pack are more likely to die than wolves in one. They are called lone wolves.

The oldest wolf known was 17 years old, even though these creatures usually only live seven to ten years. But sometimes their lives can be shorter. A quick kick in the head from a deer or a charge from a elk with its horns could easily become death for a wolf.

Wolves are realated to cats, bears, and raccoons. One of their ancestors was Cynodicitis. No wolves are extinct. The Tasmanian wolf is thought to be extinct, but it is more related to marsupials than wolves.
