Thanks to Governor John Winthrop, Saybrook Colony and New Haven Colony united with Connecticut on October 31, 1662. The British Charter he got from King Charles II recognized the Connecticut boundaries. It also recognized that Connecticut was a corporate state and allowed the state to keep the previous government. As a result Connecticut became an independent and self-reliant colonial government.
The Connecticut quarter is dated "1788" which is the year it ratified its constitution. It has "The Charter Oak"printed next to the picture of the Charter Oak and the stone wall.
