What a cool ride!!! We had just ridden a little whaler boat to Coconut Island on Oahu. It was fun. We were going to Coconut Island to interview Randy Harr and Malia Chow. After we got to the labratory, we went in a room were Dr.Chow worked. Then she explained that the population of bottom fish is scarce and they're trying to bring the fish from north eastern Hawaii to Coconut Island and raise the fish in their facility. But as soon as they feed the baby it dies. So they cannot raise the fish and must bring the fish out of the water to the tanks and keep trying.
Tilapia is a good test subject because this fish is in almost any stream here in Hawaii but can adapt to fresh and salt water really fast also the tilapia are cheap to feed.
