In ThinkQuest Jr. I have learned a lot of things about computers. Some of the things I did not know until I joined ThinkQuest were Adobe Photoshop, HTML codings. And I didn't know how to understand what the computer was telling me. For Adobe Photoshop, I took a picture of myself using a digital camera and I loaded the disk that had the picture of me on Adobe Photoshop and I traced myself using the pencil tool with the mouse then I threw away the picture of me and kept the tracings. Then I had a picture of me traced. I then took the paint bucket tool and colored myself in. That picture of me became my professor biography. I have worked with a scanner and scanned pictures in to Adobe Photoshop. Using Adobe Photoshop you can work with the picture you scanned. You could draw on it or do what you want to the picture using the tools. Then I would save it and load it to the server using the program WS FTP. With HTML coding I made lots of pages on the web that contained information for our site. Although there are programs like web editors that do the HTML coding for you and all you have to do is give them the information and they put it on the web for you, we use HTML codings with just the notepad on the computer and we do all the work, not the computer. We loaded the files ourselves with a program called WS FTP. I have used WS FTP a lot of times to get my work published to the web. Using WS FTP you have your work saved on one side and you have to move it over to the other side then it is displayed on the Internet. There is a lot of rules to using WS FTP because you might make a mistake and mess up your website, so we needed to be very careful. I liked working with graphics programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Web Painter, and the regular paint program. I drew a picture of myself which is on the web using Adobe Photoshop. With using just the computer mouse I drew a picture of a underwater scene with fishes swimming by and it looks as if it were real by just using a computer mouse. I drew my classroom where my information will be held in and where I will teach. I had very important jobs to do including calling the mayor for an interview with her. And I also called the Department of Transportation and scheduled another interview. We had a interview with people who worked at the Campbell Estate at Kapolei in Honolulu and in one of the interviews I was the camera girl, shooting the video footage. I have participated in all those interviews. For my team's website I thought of the title which is Balance-Beyond Survival. I have researched information to educate to the viewer of our website. When I researched I didn't just use the web I used books, news papers, magazines and interviews. I drew pictures and then scanned them so that they would give the viewer an idea of what our information is saying. I have participated in all the trips to Honolulu to meet with my other coach and my other teammates. We have been on a ferry ride and participated in that and the interview we had on the ferry. We went to Coconut Island which is close to Kaneohe Bay in Honolulu and I participated in that. I joined in on the interview we had there with a scientist and a Marine Biologist. I took many weekend times as well as Christmas and Spring vacations to do my work with my other teammates. | |

I want to thank my parents for making me stay in ThinkQuest Jr. the whole time. When we had meetings aferter school for TQ my dad or my mom would pick me up at 4:30. When we had meetings on the weekend my dad would drop me off all the way to another school and he would pick me up. And sometimes my mom would pick me up. And I want to thank them for supporting me throughout my ThinkQuest adventure. And when I didn't get a chance to read all my messages my dad would check them for me. My mom would let me work on the computer when she would be using it. I have never missed any trips because of my parents. |
