Professor "PB" Imai

I'm ten years old and live in a family of five--my mom, dad, sister Hana, brother Kiah and me. I go to King Kaumuali'i school. I like computers and one of my hobbies is a contest called Think Quest Junior where you make big web sites and educate kids and another thing I'm good at is an assistant soccer coach or sometimes I'm an equipment manager and I'm also good at playstation and I like racing and fighting games. I love helping take care of little kids like my next door neighbors who are twin boys. I like playing soccer, baseball, golf, vollyball and football.

For my part of our web site I worked mostly on graphics. For the land sim I did the pictures of the dead crops, sustenance and landfills. I also worked on a graphic for the opening page. I took a picture of the things that we needed on our sim with the digital camera. Then I fixed it up in Adobe Photoshop to make it look real.

I like working with Adobe. This year I learned a new technique called softlight. Softlight allows you to color in a picture in a more realistic way.

A new program I learned this year was Flash 4. It allows you to do animations. This is a really good program. It's really high tech and can be really hard to understand at first. Once you do something on flash a couple of times you'll get used to it.

I also did some research. I found information for the zipper lane, ferry, railway and walking city. I found most of my information on the web and from an interview with Mr. Schiff and Mrs. Tsumoto. I also learned from the Mayor of Kauai that waste and what we do with it is a big problem.

The best part of Thinkquest this year for me was the excursion to Coconut Island. We got to see sharks, shrimp, fish and a windmill that produces fresh water.

After working on this site I know what main things you need to make a good city.

Thank you family for supporting me through this year, giving me your time and patience also always making sure that I was at work days and for keeping track of things I would miss or e-mail messages that I never saw and helping me with hard work.

One day I just couldn't understand Flash 4. I was trying so hard to make an animation of a labratory that had a telescope and you could look through it. It got me frustrated but my mom was home so she helped me. She taught me how to make the picture spin. Even though I ended up not using that graphic, I learned how to make other graphics with the same technique.
