People of Japan

By Kelly

The Samurai and Geishas are the most remarkable thing about Japan's history. Samurai were warriors and landowners who lived in Japan. In 1592 they led 200,000 soldiers to invade Korea. For armor, they would need a painted wooden crest, a nape guard, hand armor, shoulder armor, knee protectors, straw sandals and a cuirass. The Samurai men would be trained by a swordmaster and they would have to learn how to defend themselves on the battlefield.

Some Samurai women became poets and novelists, some won praise for their scholarship of holy lives. Children would have to start school at age seven. At age 10 they would have 12 hours of school, studying subjects such as math, spelling and science.

Geishas are special people who entertain in celebrations. The word Geisha means "cultured person." Geishas entertain with songs, dances and witty conversation. There are four seasons in a year, so they wear things according to the season. In conclusion, the Samurai and the Geishas are very important to Japan.
