Ice Age Art
The Pleistocene Period includes the time from about 1.6 million years ago. During this time people did cave paintings. Back then, men did not have time to decorate their homes, but they left some clues about what they hunted. For instance, if they hunted a mammoth, there would be either a symbol or a painting of the mammoth.
The Ice Age hunters decorated themselves not their homes. Jewelery acted as a symbol and indicated the power and prestige of the wearer or, the group. People of the Ice Age throughout Europe engraved and carved thousands of animal pictures and designs with a range of materials such as, stone, bone, antler and ivory. Art was an important part of their lives. They also drew people. The human form is rarely found in cave paintings ( Ice Age Art ). Even now, people are still looking for some clues that the ancient men left.
