Babies And Young Penguins
During the summer penguins come ashore to breed.
Penguins usually lay one egg at a time, and
two a year. Once the mother penguin lays the egg
she leaves to go feed at the ocean. During this time
the father is responsible for hatching and taking
care of the egg. The father penguin will incubate the
egg for about two months.
Once the chick has hatched the father cannot just
leave it so he can go eat, he has to live on his fat
stored in his body until the mother arrives. This
will be in one or two days. Once the mother arrives
the father passes the chick to her so he can feed.
While he is gone the mother feeds the baby with
food she
has
stored in her crop.
Once father returns, mother passes chick back to the
father. Now both of them will take care of the baby
until it is grown.
