Giant Pacific Octopus

Octopods are very interesting creatures. They can change their color in a flash. They change their color when they want to attract a mate. They are red and can grow up to 20 in. [ 50 cm.] long. They eat fish and crabs. They also can squeeze through holes the size of quarters. They live and hide in small holes. When octopods are stressed out they sometimes eat themselves. First they eat some of their arms, and then they eat the rest of their bodies. No one is quite sure why they do this, though.
A female octopus lays eggs in long strings and attaches them to the walls or the ceiling in her cave. She takes care of her eggs for two or three months keeping dirt and fungus off of them. Octopods live for two to three years. The male dies after he fertilizes the eggs. The female dies after the eggs hatch.
Octopods are molluscs because they have a hard beak and no bones. Their sense of touch is as good as their sense of sight. Their sense of sight is as good as a human's sense of sight. They have a complex nerve system. They have a good sense of taste, also. They have eight tentacles with two rows of cup-like suckers. Octopods are one of the most intelligent invertebrates alive. Octopods release ink clouds for protection. When attacking octopods get a short boost of speed to get a fish.
