Roller Coaster Parts

There are many parts on a roller coaster.  Some of the main ones are discussed below.

An entire roller track is called a "circuit", because it connects in a complete enclosed area, or circuit.  When a roller coaster starts out on the track, its first hill is called a "lift hill".    Click here to find out more about lift hills.

A roller coaster has many supporting wheels and parts for the track.  The coaster starts with help of "booster wheels".    There are the booster wheels, "upstop" wheels, and road wheels.    Parts of the track include the chain dog and the rolling chain lift.   The chain dog is used to stop a roller coaster from going backwards.    The rolling chain lift helps the coaster get through the loops of the track.
