Georgia O'keeffe

Georgia was born in 1887 on a family farm in Wisconsin. She died in 1985 at the age of 98.

When she was younger she loved to paint mountains, seashells, flowers, and even animal bones from the dessert. She hardly ever painted pictures of animal or people. She painted shapes that she saw in her mind.

Georgia's mother thought art was important. Georgia and her sisters took art lessons while they grew up. After she graduated from high school, she went to an art college.

She studied at different art schools across the country. At a school, in New York she won first prize for her rabbit and copper pot painting. Georgia loved New York City. It was more exciting, than the plain farm back home. After she finished her work at art school, she decided to teach art, and traveled to Texas to take the job there.

Georgia soon started to show her love for Texas in her paintings. After a while Georgia's work looked different from any other work out there at the time.

Now there was a guy named Alfred Stieglitz that became very interested in Georgia. He remembered her from visits to his art gallery, and had seen some of her newest works of art. Alfred also thought that Georgia would soon become one of the best American artists ever.

Alfred wrote a letter to Georgia asking her to come back to New York.
