A habitat is the kind of place that is natural for the life and growth of a plant or animal.

While salmon are young they survive from eating insects. They live under algae, so when an insect gets knocked off a tree branch, the young salmon will dart up and try to catch the insect.

The salmon's habitat starts in fresh water like streams and then continues to the ocean which is salt water. From there, they migrate back to the stream to spawn.

Salmon depend upon sunlight. The young salmon require plants in their environment for protection and camouflage. They also live under the algae.

Usually along the bottom of streams, there are ample supplies of phosphorus and nitrogen; nutrients that are critical to grow and produce algae that will bloom profusely. As the stream flows downstream their habitat changes.
