When salmon are in their eggs, they mostly feed on the yolk. But when hatched, they feed on mostly small plants and animals such as plankton. Most younger salmon travel downstream to richer feeding grounds.Here they mostly feed on shrimp, shellfish, anchovies, and other small fish. But when salmon are older, they travel to the ocean and feed on mostly the same thing they feed on when they were younger.
