Alan Turing was a code-breaker in world war two, that helped to defeat Hitler. Later after the war he helped develop modern computer designs and prophesied the coming of artificial intelligence. In the 1930's British scientists had designed a cipher-breaker machine that analyzed 25,000 code characters a second. The British Navy, therefor knew exactly what orders were being given to German submarines.

In 1932 Alan published the most significant mathematical papers ever "On compatible numbers, with an application to the Entscheidundsproblem(the problem of the decidability)". The code is the word that you have like war you just use the next letters in the alphabet so the code would be xbs. At the very end of 1938,the Germans increased the number of rotors that could be chosen by an Enigma operator from 3-5. There were know not 6 but 60 possible combinations of rotors. Decoding them would require a " Bombe" with 60 machines- to many to be practicable.
