Researched and Written by Stephanie

Kathryn Lasky was born is Indianapolis, Massachusetts, 1944. As a child she showed early signs of skillful writing.  She was riding in her car one day when she described the clouds as fluffy sheep backs. She loved to describe things, and dreamed of writing for a living. With her parents’ help, she was able to make her dream come true. Kathryn quotes: "To me, the whole point of being an artist is being able to get up every morning and reinvent the world."

Now she lives in Cambridge Massachusetts. Her husband, Christopher Knight occasionally illustrates her books with his photographs. Meribah and Max, her two children appear in a few of her books.

Kathryn has written over 30 children's books, fiction as well as non-fiction, winning many awards. She received the Washington Post Childrens Book Guild award for her non-fiction. Kathryn Lasky has a wide variety in her books. She enjoys taking history and writing an interesting story about it.  For instance in She’s Wearing a Dead Bird on Her Head,  a non-fiction picture book, is about when ladies wore  dead birds for fashion. Then she might write Double Trouble Squared, a mystery novel about telepathic twins.
