The Cerebellum The cerebellum is located in the bottom back of the cerebrum, so it is most responsible for the balance of the brain. The color of the cerebellum is gray, but is is surrounded by a deeper layer of white matter and nuclie, a group of nerve cells. Three fiber bundles called cerebella peduncles connect the cerebellum to the three parts of the brain stem, the pons, the midbrain, and the medulla oblongata. This part of the brain helps you to learn habits and develop movement skills. So if you fall on it, you would be dizzy for several minutes! The cerebellum consists of a large mass of brain cells, called folia. The cerebellum has a right and left hemisphere. These two parts are connected by a thin finger-shaped matter called a vermis. The cerebellum controls many movments from hitting a baseball to fingering a violin.
