GERMAN TRADITIONS
AND CELEBRATIONS

German people put candles on the Christmas tree, and they did not wrap the presents.  There were no fir trees in Texas so they got cedar trees instead.  The tree was put in the best room.  Since the decorated tree was to be a surprise, the children did not do the decorating.  Only the parents decorated it.  Christmas was celebrated on the evening of December 24. The father left supper early to light the candle and that was also the time Santa Claus came.  After Father rang the bell, Santa was done putting the presents under the tree.  A bucket of water was near by in case of a fire.
