Tea Scones

2 cups flour 2 T sugar
1/4 cup butter 2 T raisins
1 tsp. baking powder 1 egg
1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 cup milk

Place flour in a bowl; rub in butter. Add baking powder, salt,
sugar, and raisins. Mix well. Beat egg, and add to milk;
reserve 1 T of mixture. Add remainder to dry ingredients.
Knead to make moist dough. Turn onto well-floured board.
Roll out 3/4-inch thick. Cut into 2-inch rounds with biscuit
cutter. Arrange on lightly floured baking sheet. Brush tops
with reserved egg mixture. Bake at 425 degrees until risen
and lightly browned, about 25 minutes. Let cool. Makes nine.
