FOLK MUSIC OF DIFFERENT CULTURAL GROUPS

Each group that came to Texas brought their own musical heritage.  They used music to work with and to play by. Some immigrants had "play parties" where they would sing and dance.  They did not call it "dance" because it was against their church.  Many newcomers did not have instruments until later years.  They wanted to have the same instruments they had in their homeland.   Their music was learned in a way very similar to the way that they learned folk tales.   Many songs that we sing today are folk songs.
