| Chapter 10: One day Mina talks to a man with a wagon and oxen. They were going back to Germany. Mina tells him that he won't be needing his wagon or oxen, only he needed money. He did an auction and Anna and Mina's dads put all their money together and bid $150.00 and got the two items. The two families started to move on to get their provisions. | |
| Chapter 11: They decided to take turns riding and walking with the wagon. They went in search of the Verein to find out what to do next. One day baby Elizabeth got ill with fever and stopped breathing. They buried her under a bush tree where they had camped and marked her grave by placing a stone with her initials E. M. K. carved on it. | |
| Chapter 12: While they were in Victoria they met a nice family that offered them food, milk, and a nice warm place to sleep in the loft. Mina thought that the house and family were very nice. | |
| Chapter 13: While everyone was asleep Mina heard a noise and woke Anna and asked her if she knew what the noise was. Neither of them knew so they woke up the adults and papa shot his gun at the thing in the tree. The thing was a panther more than likely going after their provisions. | |
| Chapter 14: They rode across on the ferry to the village of New Braunfels where there were houses of different sizes scattered among the trees. They went to the Verein and he told them that their land was in Indian territory and they should go to Fredricksburg. Mina and Anna went looking for acorns and met an Indian family. Their little girl traded her a beaded belt for a lock of Mina's golden hair and it just so happened that it was Mina's birthday. | |
| Chapter 15: While on the Indian trail a soldier shot a black bear. The lead wagon halted and everyone thought they were being attacked. Mina moved up to the front wagon to get a better look. She saw her Indian friend and everyone was scared that they might battle, but they didn't. | |
| Chapter 16: Mina liked having so many people working together. Everyone helped build her home. Heinrich sold the wagon and oxen to Papa so he could haul things. Mina was sad because Papa had to leave for a long time. | |
| Chapter 17: Frau Kaufman was sick so Mina was sent to the Bickenbachs. The next days she went to school where she learned English every day. One day Papa was home only the bad thing about it was he was sick. | |
| Chapter 18: Mina ran to get Dr. Schubert, but he would not come until he ate his supper. Mina had a dream. When she awoke she knew what she must do. That was to get the Medicine man. | |
| Chapter 19: Mina got Lisette to watch Papa while she went to get the Shaman (medicine man). The Chief and the Shaman came with Mina back to the cabin. | |
| Chapter 20: The Shaman made a tea for Papa and he got better as the days went by. While Lisette was helping Mina put on a new dress Papa asked her if she would marry him and she said yes. |
