AltaVista Simple Search Laws

AND search Plus sign in front of word/phrase wanted in AND search +"falco peregrinus" +"peregrine falcon"

NEAR search Use the advanced search to use it.

Phrase Double quotes around the phrase specified "George Washington"

Case Sensitive Search Use uppercase to search only exactly what you are searching for. Lowercase is used to search both uppercase and lowercase. "Falco peregrinus" would not come up with "falco peregrinus."

Wildcard Use asterisk to specify ben*

NOT search Use negative sign in front of word/phrase you want to exclude -peregrine -"duck hawk" or peregrine AND NOT "duck hawk"

OR search Put spaces between the words/phrases you want to have an OR search. Do not put any ORs between them. "Falco Peregrinus" "Duck Hawk"
