Make Your Own
Peek A Boo Book

Materials needed:

Step 1: Writing the Story

To write the story, get an idea of what you are going to write about, for example, " Funny Feet." On each page, write a different question. An example would be " Whose feet are hiding behind the curtain?" or " Whose feet are in the circus ring?". When you are done, go on to step 2.

Step 2: Making the Pictures

After you have finished writing the story, make the illustrations to the writing piece. If you have written, " Who is hiding behind the curtain?" then in your picture you might want to put a picture of a ballerina. Or if you wrote, " Who is in the circus ring?" you might want to draw a picture of a circus clown. For every page that has been written on, draw a picture to go with it.

Here is a sample page!

Step 3: Making the Peek A Boo Window

To make the window, first take a piece of paper big enough to cover the picture and tape or glue it to the paper. Fold it to make a flap. Do this to each page. When you have finished taping or gluing the paper, you can cut a small hole, or window, to give the reader a peek of what they are trying to guess. When the reader has guessed, they can fold up the flap to see if their guess is right.

Here is the same sample page, but it has the flap covering some of the picture.

Step 4: Making the Book

After you make all of your pages, you can make them into a book by stapling the pages together.

Step 5: The Cover [if you would like to make one]

Regular cover: To make a regular cover, use two pieces of construction paper which are the same size as the paper you used in the story, or slightly bigger. Sandwich your book between the two pieces of construction paper and staple. Write the title for the book, then trace over it with crayons, markers, or colored pencils. You can also draw a picture on the cover or decorate it any way you would like to.

A Hinged cover: To make a hinged cover, cut a 1/2-inch strip from the margin. Then tape the strip back to the cover, leaving a small space between the paper and the strip. Tape both the front and back of the paper. Since you have already stapled the book together, cover the hinge with book tape.
