Rolling Readers

Do you know how Rolling Readers got started? Well, in 1991, Robert W. Condon, father of two, began reading aloud to his children every evening. Almost immediately they had richer vocabularies, most importantly, they desperately wanted to learn to read for themselves.

Wanting to help other children, Robert recruited 10 like-minded individuals and these readers "rolled" into under-achieving schools and low-income community sites: Head Start centers, homeless shelters and public housing developments. Rolling Readers USA, the organization, was born. Beginning in the early 1997, it became a national grassroots phenomenon.
