Peer Tutoring
Peer tutoring is when a person who is really good in a subject helps someone
his own age to understand that subject better.
For example, a fifth grade student who is an excellent reader might
volunteer his or her time during lunch or recess to sit with other fifth graders who
need help reading. Or maybe a high school
student who is fantastic at writing goes to study hall to help other high school
students who have a hard time writing. This kind of help is sometimes
better for the person who needs help than working with an adult because in some
cases the person who needs help is less embarrassed to get help if he thinks he
is getting help from a friend.
Peer tutoring can happen at any age level and does two things:
1)
It helps
the person who is having a hard time reading
or writing.
2)
It reinforces good reading and writing for the person who is the peer tutor
and makes him or her feel good that he or she can help someone else.
