A paragraph is when you write on a short subject! It is a group of sentences that tell about one idea. You should always indent before you start anything. Then you write what you are going to say. A paragraph should be about 4-6 sentences long: If you have more than 6 sentences, you might want to shorten it, or begin a new paragraph. Having too few sentences can cause a problem, too! If you think you don't have enough sentences, be descriptive, add a little more here and there. This is the guide to having a successful paragraph!
A good paragraph includes:
A Topic Sentence - this is the main idea or subject of the writing.
Detail Sentences - these are the sentences that describe and give more detail about the main idea.
Logical Order - the sentences have to be put together in a way that makes sense.
You also have to make sure that all the sentences are about the main idea.
Here is a sample paragraph:
The inside of the building was beautiful. There was a faint smell of pine needles. Christmas lights were everywhere! Wreaths were hung outside of every door. An elaborate Christmas tree sat right in the middle. The tree was decorated with precious ornaments, figures, and on the very, very top, there was a golden star!
