Plot: In this book, Commander Forbes sails to Dahomey from England to try to stop King Gezo's slave trade. There he is invited to a ceremony called "Watering of the Graves". He meets Sarah who was going to be sacrificed. Commander Forbes saw the markings on Sarah's face symbolizing that she was a princess and told King Gezo that Queen Victoria wouldn't respect him if he didn't give the girl to him. So, he gave her to Commander Forbes who then gave her the name Sarah. The commander's wife and children taught Sarah the English language and manners. The queen would always arrange to get together with Sarah and her new family. One day Sarah married a man named James Davies. They had a child and named her Victoria, after Queen Victoria.
Did you enjoy this book? Yes, I enjoyed this book. I enjoyed it because it was very intriguing and I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read books that have diary entries mixed in with regular story. I really enjoyed this book!
