Title: Indian Captive: The Story of Mary Jemison
Author: Lois Lenski
List of Characters and a Description of Each: Mary ( a 12 year old girl with long, blonde hair who they nickname Molly), Beaver Girl (one of Mary's Indian sisters), and other Indians.
Plot: Mary, a twelve year old girl, gets captured by Indians and gets separated from her family. She tries to run away from them several times. Soon, she learns the ways of the Indians and starts to love them like family. She hopes the English people don't take her away from the Indians, though she misses her real family terribly. She travels to Southern Ohio with the Indians. Later in the story they travel to a Senca Village in Western New York by the Genesee River. The Indians are very kind to her, but they finally decide to let her go. This is very difficult for Mary as well as the Indians because Mary has become like a sister to the Indians! Mary Jemison is also known as the "White Woman of the Genesee".
