Summary:

This book is about what Laura's first four married years are like. Alamanzo made a treaty with her that she would try three years of being married to a farmer and if she didn't like it then he would be anything she wanted him to be. They have a daughter which they name Rose. They had an old dog named Shep that ran away because he was jealous of Rose. But another dog came in Shep's place. He was a St. Bernard who thought that his job was to look after Rose and make sure nothing happened to her.
