While we were researching sinkholes we came across accounts about actual sinkholes. One account mentioned a sinkhole that had opened up in an abandoned mine that had given the town its name, "Black Diamond".  In another account, a storm opened up a few sinkholes. Also, millions of  years ago while mastodons and mammoths ruled the earth, sinkholes opened up and animals thought they were water holes and..........well, you can guess what had happened!
